Field Stories

Day 2 of the #eLAFashion Blog is live!

We kick-off Day 2 of the #eLAFashion Blog with some of those who will be building our future. Grade 7 and Grade 8 students from the M/A CRIG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL look superb in their ceremonial uniforms. The school is part of #Ghana’s Cocoa Research Institute. They have travelled to #Accra all the way from New Tafo-Akim in the Eastern Region. The vivid green uniforms are made from a bespoke print featuring images of a cacao bean, a lamp for learning and the school motto: ‘Head. Heart. Hand’. Welcome to you all and thank you for looking so smart.

MARTHA EKIRAPA, Director of Education at Kenya’s Ministry of Education, is carrying a blazing torch for East African style today in her multicoloured top. Tailored in #Nairobi from local kitenge fabric, her jacket reminds us of the Flame Lily, Kenya’s national flower. #Kenya

Professor NDONGFACK MICHAEL NKWENTI from #Cameroon demonstrates just how stylish a monotone can be. His standout shirt was designed by his wife and has been tailored from local handwoven Afritui fabric.

ADEEP NAFFA from the #eLearningAfrica organising team needs to stay cool and stylish while managing registration for the conference. He’s chosen a light lilac tie-dye shirt styled with loose trousers and black trainers. He bought the shirt in #Amman, the capital of his native #Jordan.

CLAUDIA TWUM spotted this fabric on a market stall here in #Accra and knew she had to have it. She designed the outfit herself and had her favourite seamstress put it together especially for the #eLearningAfrica conference. Claudia tells #eLAFashion that her seamstress is used to turning “crazy ideas into amazing pieces”. All we can say is well done both of you – the result is sensational.

British Council Egypt’s NESMA MOSTAFA chose Cairo fashion house Ausetia for this stunning outfit. Ausetia reimagines timeless Egyptian themes with a contemporary design ethos. The repeated lotus motif and bold abstracts create a panchromatic  masterpiece that Nesma carries off perfectly.

#eLearningAfrica Director and Founder REBECCA STROMEYER dons a striking hand-embroidered mirror jacket from Punjab, Pakistan. This custom multicoloured piece with its myriad of fine details and sparkle serves as a metaphor for both Rebecca herself and the diversity of the whole #eLA26 community.

AANYA FATIMA NIAZ from AWS in the UK has chosen a bold combo: a black and white gingham top with royal blue details and contrasting blue and white print pants. It’s finished with white platform sneakers. We think it comes off with aplomb. On the quiet, Aanya lets #eLAFashion in on one of her style secrets – look to Portuguese or Spanish labels for achingly ontrend pieces. We can only agree.

From Togo to Senegal, with love from Mum. This joyful outfit was a gift from his mother, bringing colour, confidence and a whole lot of happiness to the #eLAfashion floor. Proof that the best looks are not just worn – they are felt.

Brice from Côte d’Ivoire is back on the #eLAfashion radar. One of last year’s top-dressed participants, he returns in another standout look – this time, an outfit gifted by his wife. Stylish, meaningful and worn with genuine appreciation, it proves that some of the best fashion stories begin at home.

Stay tuned for day 3!
